SOUND ART

chance + pattern study (2015)
For 8 (or 4) iphones in 8 (or 4) channel surround

An exploration of controlled chance, as well as chance patterns within communication.

8 people with iPhones exchange phone numbers before the performance. For the piece, those 8 people text each other within a group message for a set duration with each phone audio output going to individual channels.

Program notes:
Keyboard clicks sound should be set to ON, text tone should be set to NONE. Audio from each iPhone should be sent to 1 separate channel each (1/8” male to 1/4" male), does not matter which speaker as long as there is only one person to each speaker. Ideally, performers are scattered in audience but may sit together. Lights can be dimmed or blackout. Piece may also be performed with 4 iphones in quad.
